Moonshine Acres RV Park
Welcome to our online travel scrapbook! After having made a Christmas trip to Florida in our camper trailer three times now, hubby and I consider it a Christmas tradition. His family lives near Fort White, FL, and the trip down takes us through my hometown, so it's convenient to stop off at my parents' then continue on to FL for a few days. For the last two visits, we've stayed at Moonshine Acres RV Park. (Click the pics for the best view.)
We have nothing but good to say about this place. The folks who greet us are friendly, the sites are level, and while not huge, they're at least not tiny. The clubhouse is well-stocked and decorated with charming vintage decor, the bathrooms are the nicest I've seen at any campground anywhere, and at least when we've been there at Christmas, it's quiet and peaceful.

Campsite #10 |
We stayed in site #10 both years, and will probably request it again. It's a spacious site with a nice view out over an open area. The sites aren't paved, but that didn't bother us.
The old oak trees make the whole property so picturesque! There are covered pavilions and firepits, a nice playground and patio area behind the clubhouse, and a dog park. Inside the clubhouse, you'll find pool and ping-pong tables, a TV, and a lounging area. The WIFI is adequate, but I haven't stayed in any campground with WIFI that I'd call good. If you have your windows open, you'll hear some noise from the highway, but that didn't bother us at all.
One of the best things about the park is its proximity to Itchetucknee Springs where you can swim, tube, kayak, and hike. On our trips, we've also kayaked Sante Fe River and the Silver River where we saw monkeys (!) and a big alligator sunning himself on a log, oblivious to the kayakers gawking at him. Also nearby is the beautiful (and popular) Ginnie Springs where you can swim and dive.
So, if you're looking for something to do in FL that isn't the beach or Disney, consider taking your camper to Moonshine Acres. You can spend a day at Itchetucknee, then another day at Ginnie Springs. For a 3rd day, drive about 40 minutes to Gainesville where you can visit the Butterfly Rainforest, the Florida Museum of Natural History, and finish up your day at Swamp Head Brewery. For other ideas in Gainesville, click here. On your way to or from Gainesville, be sure to stop in the antiques stores in High Springs.
I haven't posted about any of our other camper trips, but our favorites are the one closest to our house - Mistletoe State Park, and Lake Blackshear Veterans Memorial Park. If you reserve far enough in advance, you can get a site right on the water at both parks. I'll take enough pics on our return trips to do some more posting.
